Living in an Age of Deception

I believe we can all agree we are living in an unsettled age; the news is filled with activities that suggest a spirit of anarchy permeates the land. From the halls of government to the sidewalks and streets of many cities, the filth and corruption seems out of control.

I’m reminded of the warning we are given in Galatians 5:19-21 where it is written about mankind’s fallen nature:

¹⁹ The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; ²⁰ idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions ²¹ and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

To that list we might add murders and general mayhem; it appears one of the major issues dominating the news today is the addition of a Justice to the Supreme Court who will likely take exception to murdering babies in the womb.

The very fact this is an issue is a profoundly serious condemnation of this nation! The statistics on abortion are widely available, one headline announces:

“61,628,584 Babies Have Been Killed in Abortions Since Roe v. Wade in 1973” (https://www.lifenews.com/)

Such an unbelievable number of so-called “legal” murders of innocent babies is an unspeakable atrocity!

Satan, the Deceiver!

It seems almost impossible to understand the decisions all too many people are making about life and society; the standards of decency and social interaction are being ignored by a vast number of people.

I’m convinced we are witnessing a massive world-wide effort by Satan to deceive the people of the earth. The erratic behavior of so many people defies rational explanation.

Both governments and individuals are acting in ways that are obviously destructive and hurtful! I believe people who are spiritually dead are the ones most susceptible to this Satanic campaign of deception.

The spiritually dead in both the public and private sectors are vulnerable to this deception. The spiritually alive, all born-again Christians, have a sure defense against Satanic deception; the indwelling Holy Spirit is infinitely more powerful than any demon including Satan!

The November, 2020 Election

The election this year may well determine the future of the United States; the opposing parties, vying for control, represent diametrically opposed values in almost all aspects of life. I do not recall ever seeing such a dramatic difference of philosophy on the way nations should be governed and life should be lived.

All Christians have a responsibility to stand up for Christian principles by voting for the party that follows those principles most closely. It is the standard of the Bible that should be used to measure the merit of any political party.

The party whose platform most closely follows the teachings of the Bible must be the one supported by Christians. It is our responsibility before the Lord to vote for Christian principles!

It should be understood that neither party is blessed with sinless perfection; in that, the political parties have much in common with everyone else. No one, born of a human father, can claim sinless perfection!

The Outcome of this Election was Determined in Eternity Past!

The Bible makes it very clear that God places governments in power which is a source of great comfort to me.

In Daniel 4:17 it is written:

¹⁷ ‘This decision is by the decree of the watchers,
And the sentence by the word of the holy ones,
In order that the living may know
That the Most High rules in the kingdom of men,
Gives it to whomever He will,
And sets over it the lowest of men.’

Again in Romans 13:1 it is written:

13 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

Nevertheless, we, as Christians living in a democratic republic, have the responsibility before the Lord to be responsible citizens and vote in accordance with Christian principles!

The citizens of this country are free to vote as they will, but are not free to escape the consequences of that vote!

I encourage you to vote in accordance with sound Bible doctrine! May God’s will be Done!
